Author Guidelines

1. Manuscript Types

Jurnal Kimia Unand publishes three types of manuscripts: communications, articles, and reviews.

Communications should be kept to a maximum of four typewritten pages. A communication should be a brief but complete description of an investigation, which will not be included in a later paper. It should be as completely documented as a full-length article.

Articles (Full Length) should describe original, significant, and complete studies, and need to contain a detailed experimental section.

Reviews are concise, yet complete, surveys of the literature written by experts for non-experts. Their purpose is to acquaint readers of the journal with recent progress in key research areas. They should be written for a more general audience of chemists and provide a balanced view of the topic in question. Exclusive (or near-exclusive) focus on the author’s research is discouraged. Reviews are invited by the Editor and are limited to approximately 50 pages of double-spaced manuscript, including tables, figures, and references. A review invitation does not guarantee that a review will be peer-reviewed or published.

2. Submission of Manuscript

  • Manuscripts can be written in Indonesian or English
  • The manuscript has not already been published or submitted elsewhere. If similar or related work has been published or submitted elsewhere, you must provide a copy of the submitted manuscript. You may not submit your manuscript elsewhere while it is under consideration at Jurnal Kimia Unand.
  • Manuscripts are not a result of plagiarism or duplication of other scientific works (self-plagiarism).
  • The author provides a statement letter when the manuscript will be published.
  • The manuscript is written following the format of Jurnal Kimia Unand as provided
  • The manuscript should be between 2000 -3000 words in MS Word format
  • The format of manuscript writing is a distance of 1.15 spacing, Times New Roman, font size 11 points, two columns, and margin following the Jurnal Kimia Unand template format.
  • Manuscripts should be submitted using the online submission system to Jurnal Kimia Unand.

3. Format of Manuscript

The manuscript contains the following information: title, each author's full name and affiliation, abstract in English, and keywords. Jurnal Kimia Unand uses several sub-headings: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussions, Conclusions, Acknowledgments, and References. Avoid using too many sub-headings.

  • Title. The title should be concise and informative. Avoid abbreviations and formulas where possible.
  • Author information. The names of the authors are written without an academic degree, accompanied by the names of each institution (if different, write separately). The corresponding author is marked with *; ensure that the e-mail address is given and that contact details are kept up to date by the corresponding author.
  • Abstract. The abstract should briefly state the purpose of the research, the principal results, and significant conclusions in one paragraph, and it has to be written in English. The abstract text should not exceed 250 words per the journal style. Immediately after the abstract, provide five keywords, avoiding general and plural terms and multiple concepts. These keywords will be used for indexing purposes.
  • Figures. Ensure each figure has a caption with a sequential number (1,2,3). A caption should comprise a brief title and a description of the figure. Keep text in the figure themselves to a minimum but explain all symbols and abbreviations used. Examples are provided in the Jurnal Kimia Unand template.
  • Tables. Ensure that each table has a caption with a sequential number (1,2,3) with the caption above the table body, and place any table notes below the table body. Examples are provided in the Jurnal Kimia Unand template.
  • References. References are placed at the end of the manuscript with sequential numbers based on the order that appears in the text. It is highly recommended to use reference software. Jurnal Kimia Unand provides output styles for Mendeley users.

Examples of References List

Text: Indicate references by number(s) in square brackets in line with the text. The actual authors can be referred to, but the reference number(s) must always be given.
Example: '..... as demonstrated [3,6]. Barnaby and Jones [8] obtained a different result ....'
List: Number the references (numbers in square brackets) in the list in the order in which they appear in the text.
